We live in a changing world. Everyone hopes, but no one really knows what the future holds. The vision of El Arca is not only to give a second chance to children rejected by family, friends and society, but also to prepare them to adapt and thrive in the world to come. El Arca is an oasis where children can find healing and significance.
El Arca’s new location near Puerto Maldonado in the Peruvian Amazon jungle will be an oasis, providing a safe yet challenging environment where the children can learn, play, explore and grow physically, mentally and spiritually. It will be a refuge where they can find healing for emotional and physical wounds received too early in life, where they can build character and learn responsibility and self-discipline that will help them mature. The children will be given a basic education, as well as trained in agronomy and animal husbandry – blending tried and true methods with the latest scientific research – English, dance and arts, midwifery, mechanics, plumbing, electrical, computation, sewing, business management, among others.
One of our main goals is to address a general crisis in the area of comprehension and retention. Curricula and activities are designed to help them learn to think and reason, to foresee change and adapt to whatever the future may hold. Our desire is not only to take them off of the streets, but also to make them productive citizens that can make a difference for many others like them. The land is large enough to be able to farm and raise production crops and livestock by which to provide for the needs of the Home and become as self-sufficient as possible. Sharing with others is a big part of character development and the children will learn through community outreach and sharing of information and technology with those around us. Most of all, they will be encouraged toward faith in the Lord Jesus Christ – our only true hope for the future.
